Rangers star Leon King

Bayer Leverkusen and Eintracht Frankfurt have joined Man United, Leeds United and Newcastle United in the hunt for Rangers defender Leon King, sources have told Football Insider.

The Premier League trio have all registered their interest in the Ibrox sensation, 18, ahead of the January window, and now the two German giants have followed suit.

King has emerged as a top target for clubs across Europe after establishing himself in the Rangers first team this season.

His future is up in the air with his contract due to expire in the summer of 2024.

King has already made 12 appearances for the Ibrox club this season, including four against top-draw opposition in the Champions League.

The Scotland Under-21 international made his senior debut under Steven Gerrard in November 2020 and has gone on to play 19 times for Rangers.

King’s increased involvement has been necessitated by injuries to Connor Goldson, Filip Helander, Ben Davies, and John Souttar in recent weeks.

Football Insider revealed Man United and Newcastle interest in the young centre-back in November 2021 – months after his Scottish Premiership debut.

Top Bundesliga sides Frankfurt and Leverkusen have now entered the race, with the German top flight an emerging destination for British talents to learn their trade.

King could follow in the footsteps of English starlets Jude Bellingham and Jamie Bynoe-Gittens – both of whom play for Borussia Dortmund.

Rangers, who have already been eliminated from the Champions League, sit second in the Scottish Premiership.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side are just two points adrift of rivals Celtic.
