Niklas Stark especially praised the team performance

The final whistle brought great relief, and after four defeats in a row, SV Werder Bremen recorded their first win in 2023 with the 2-1 victory against VfL Wolfsburg. The mood was captured by reporters after the game, when the elated Werder players wanted to focus above all on the team performance.

Head coach Ole Werner: “It was a back-and-forth game, and in the final moments it was very tight. In the first half we had chances to be ahead by more goals. In the second half it was all about defensive work. We played a decent game three days ago, so it wasn’t difficult to encourage the team. The small details went right for us and we threw ourselves passionately into every challenge. We will take with us the confidence in our own game and our ability to react to setbacks.”

Niclas Füllkrug: “Today we were back after a small dip. We were able to correctly deal with the period of four defeats, just like the manager has always emphasised. We showed an impressive reaction today, not only in terms of the result. It was a top performance from everyone. That has to become our standard again now that we aim towards.”

Niclas Stark: “We played well and deserved the result. It’s a great feeling. We communicated a lot at the back and the most important thing was staying focused, and that was the case tonight. The key was that every player gave their all, both the starting eleven and the substitutes. Everyone contributed; we were a real team on the pitch.”

Jens Stage: “We had to work hard today, the atmosphere was great. It’s nice to celebrate with the fans. We put everything in that we had talked about internally, and everyone was ready to give their all. That was the key. We know that if we work hard we will reach our goal. We were strong in our challenges and threw everything we had at the other team; it was just a great feeling today.”

Amos Pieper: “It feels really good. We deserved the victory, and it wasn’t easy after we were unlucky to lose on Wednesday. Everyone put in an absolute top performance. We did a lot right; we were good in challenges and made a lot of good decisions. We were very alert both in attack and defence. Now we can assess our situation during the week and be fully ready for Stuttgart.”
