Alan Shearer has delivered his verdict following the sacking of Steven Gerrard as Aston Villa manager.
Villa collapsed to a 3-0 defeat at Fulham on Thursday night.
The club announcement came soon after full-time, as a statement released read: “Aston Villa Football Club can confirm that Head Coach Steven Gerrard has left the club with immediate effect.”
Shearer claims the former Liverpool captain would have been aware that his job was hanging by a thread, with performances reflecting poor results. “It is a results driven business, you know that,” Shearer told Amazon Prime.
“Every manager knows that, and you don’t get time. From where they were when he took over, to where they are now, he will be bitterly disappointed of not being able to improve them.
“The inevitable has happened unfortunately.”
Villa will return to home action when they take on Brentford at home this Sunday.
