Manchester City are reportedly interested in signing Toni Kroos on a free transfer with his Real Madrid contract up at the end of the season.

The 32-year-old World Cup winning midfielder might well fancy a new challenge having won three La Liga titles and the Champions League four times while in Spain.

Spanish outlet SPORT report that City have already made an approach to sign the player over a deal worth an estimated £230,000-a-week, with a number of clubs on high-alert.

That deal would be worth £12.2million per year, which is an increase on his current terms in Spain – and he also has history with Pep Guardiola.

The former Germany midfielder made 51 appearances under the Spaniard during their time together with Bayern Munich, where they won the title in 2013/14.

Kroos formed a formidable trio with Luka Modric and Casemiro on his move to La Liga, which was broken up last summer with the latter joining Manchester United.

Speaking on his future earlier in the month, Kroos said: “My future? We will discuss about it in January, February or March.

“My relationship with Real Madrid is special and will always be special.”

Kroos has also spoken highly of his time working with Guardiola, suggesting he would be keen to reunite with the four-time Premier League winning boss.

He said: “Guardiola fought until the last day for me to stay at Bayern.

“If I have to choose a coach who is perfect for my game, it’s Guardiola. I really enjoyed the year with him, he improved me a lot.’

Having made 18 appearances in all competitions so far this season, Kroos has brought his overall tally for the club to 383, having played 205 times for Bayern.
