LIVERPOOL SOLD
Liverpool have made some fantastic sales in recent years, haven’t they?
£23.5m for Rhian Brewster, £15m for Jordon Ibe, and £19m for Dominic Solanke are amongst the biggest instances of daylight robbery the Premier League has ever seen.
Meanwhile, the Reds also received £12.5m for Danny Ward back in 2018, and that is now looking like another brilliant sale from the Merseyside club.
Ward had played just two league games for Liverpool by the time Leicester were shelling out an eight-figure fee to sign him, and since joining the Foxes, he’s barely had a look-in, playing just one league game before this season.
However, this summer the sale of Kasper Schmeichel left the window of opportunity open for Ward to become Leicester’s number one this term.
This was it, the Welshman was finally going to make a name for himself in the Premier League and show just why he was deemed to be worth £12.5m off the back of a handful of senior appearances.
Unfortunately, it’s not quite worked out like that for Ward.
Eight games into this season, Ward is looking well and truly out of his depth. He’s conceded 22 goals to date, and while he kept his first clean sheet of the season on Monday against Nottingham Forest, even that was a ropey performance that contained a few scares.
Ward is currently ranking as the Premier League’s worst player based on WhoScored’s ratings – well actually he’s the second-worst behind Emmanuel Dennis, but the Nigerian has played just 88 minutes this season, so it’s incredibly harsh to consider him.
As much as we hate to say it, Ward has more than earned the title of being the Premier League’s worst player this season, and it’s baffling to think that any team would pay even £1m for him at this point, nevermind over 10x that.
Liverpool are the kings of getting value from their player sales, and it looks like they’ve pulled off another heist when selling Ward for such a massive fee.
