The reigning Ballon d’Or winner Karim Benzema has reportedly rejected Emmanuel Macron‘s, the President of France, invitation to the World Cup final.
France reached their second successive World Cup final in Qatar, with Argentina standing in the way of a third triumph. And Les Blues did it all without Benzema – who was ruled out of the tournament through injury.
And according to French-outlet to RMC Sport, Benzema turned down the chance to cheer on his team-mates in the Middle East. The 34-year-old had been invited by President Macron, but turned it down due to a broken relationship with French boss Didier Deschamps.
Multiple reports had suggested that Benzema had made a speedy recovery from his thigh injury, and he could have featured in the final in Qatar.
However, Deschamps refused to answer when asked if Benzema could feature against Argentina: “I don’t really want to answer that question, next question.” Benzema hit back on Instagram, posting a snap with the caption: “I’m not interested.”
France opted for an unchanged side for the final, with AC Milan‘s Oliver Giroud being given the nod up top.
