Barcelona came unstuck at Bayern Munich on Tuesday night and two of Real Madrid‘s leading lights have poked fun at their rival’s Champions League defeat.
Real Madrid duo Karim Benzema and Vinicius Jnr both posted, what appeared to be, sly digs at Barcelona after their Champions League loss on Tuesday night.
The Catalans went down at Bayern Munich as they lost 2-0 in the Allianz Arena with the Germans grabbing goals courtesy of Leroy Sane and Lucas Hernandez. Robert Lewandowski, a marquee signing at the Nou Camp this summer, did not enjoy a triumphant return as he was kept quiet.
Barcelona invested heavily over the summer as they look to become a force once more. Arch rivals Madrid meanwhile have enjoyed great success as of late – and two of their leading lights were clearly prepared to revel in their current status.
Benzema posted a picture of himself holding the Champions League trophy last season whilst his Brazilian teammate shared a group image of himself laughing, just minutes after the full-time whistle in Bavaria.
Vinicius scored the winner as Los Blancos claimed Europe’s biggest prize last term with Benzema their star man throughout the tournament. It was one half of a double as Carlo Ancelotti’s men also topped LaLiga.
Madrid have certainly enjoyed bragging rights over Barcelona in the past decade. The latter’s last Champions League win came in 2015 when they beat Juventus in the final. Since then Real have won the competition four times to set themselves apart as by far the tournament’s most dominant side.
Barcelona boss Xavi made his frustration known at full-time, claiming his team were the better side but couldn’t make their dominance count. He said: “I’m p*ssed off. I’m p*ssed off. I don’t like to lose – and we didn’t deserve it. I think we were better, we dominated them. We were better. But this is the Champions League.
