Liverpool could be in a prime position to complete the transfer of the 2023 window by beating Real Madrid to Kylian Mbappe.
Liverpool are being talked up as the favourites to sign Kylian Mbappe if the headline-dominating star pushes for a move away from Paris Saint-Germain in the next year. Mbappe joining Real Madrid seems further away now than ever, potentially opening the door for the Reds to complete the long-speculated blockbuster transfer.
Mbappe was widely expected to join Real on a free transfer last summer upon the expiry of his PSG contract. Alas, the 23-year-old forward made the surprise decision to remain in Paris, signing a new three-year contract at the Parc des Princes worth a mouthwatering £220million.
But reports are already emerging that Mbappe is growing unsettled at the club, although he’s since disputed those claims. And while Real are naturally back in the frame, Canal + journalist Hugo Cappelaere has poured cold water on a move to Los Blancos and tipped Liverpool as the frontrunners for his signature next summer.
He told Bernabeu Digital: “It’s just calmed down. He will never leave in January, it’s impossible. On the other hand, for next summer, I do think it’s practically certain that he will leave. I am not sure that Real Madrid is the number one candidate to sign him. Florentino Pérez sees how Mbappe and his entourage are behaving behind the scenes, and I don’t think he likes it at all.
