According to L’Équipe Lionel Messi did not train with the rest of the Argentina squad on Friday but was involved in some indoors gym training – four days away from Argentina’s World Cup opener against Saudi Arabia, according to a source at the Argentina FA.
Fourteen players and the three goalkeepers were involved in the collective session, including players who have recently suffered injuries or knocks, such as Lautaro Martinez, Paulo Dybala (right thigh), Papu Gomez (knee injury) and Marcos Acuna (pubalgia). On the other hand, like Leo Messi, Angel Di Maria, Rodrigo De Paul, Leandro Paredes and Nicolas Otamendi were not involved on the training pitch.
The training session at Qatar University, Argentina’s base camp during the tournament, took place in front of almost 400 journalists from all over the world, just a stone’s throw from Spain’s training ground. Argentina face Saudi Arabia next Tuesday in their World Cup opener, then playing Mexico in a mouth watering ficture on 26th November, whilst finishing off group C against Poland.
