Juventus, Manchester United and more are linked with bids, but Lazio director Igli Tare explains just how much Sergej Milinkovic-Savic means to his club. ‘If I had a daughter, I’d want her to marry him.’
The Serbia international midfielder is getting ready to participate in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, which begins this afternoon with the hosts taking on Ecuador.
Milinkovic-Savic is expected to take centre-stage for his country and that could bump up his asking price even more, especially as his contract with the Aquile runs to June 2024.
“He arrived here as a kid and is now an adult man, a father,” Lazio director Tare told Mozzartsport.
“After eight years, he is an important person for us, not just a player. This is what I appreciate the most about him, he is such a humble human being, never arrogant or presumptuous.
“If I had a daughter, I’d want her to marry him. Is that clear enough on how much I like him? Sometimes after a match, he will come to me and ask if he did well or badly. I always reply he can do better and then he laughs that I am never satisfied.
“I warn him to keep looking forward and that he really can still improve as a player.”
Milinkovic-Savic is now 27 years old and has just become a father for the first time this week, although he was unable to attend the birth due to his World Cup commitments.
Tuttosport continue to suggest Juventus will try to strike a deal in the region of €60m for the midfielder, while there is also known to be interest from the Premier League with Manchester United, Chelsea and Manchester City.
