Former Inter President Massimo Moratti insists Serie A ‘was manipulated’ with the Calciopoli scandal and the Nerazzurri ‘were robbed.’

The Nerazzurri won the 2005-06 title by default after Juventus were relegated to Serie B and stripped of their last two Scudettos won under Fabio Capello due to the Calciopoli scandal.

The debate in Italy is still open, but Moratti is proud to claim the title won in 2006 following Juventus’ relegation.

“Absolutely, I know Juventus fans won’t like it, but this makes me insist. That title was the minimum we could get after being robbed. We should have received even more,” Moratti told Il Corriere Della Sera as quoted by Gazzetta.

The former Inter patron also confirmed that former Juventus director Luciano Moggi, one of those responsible for the Calciopoli scandal, wanted to join the Nerazzurri.

“It is true and although I never explicitly told him that I didn’t want him, I’d never hire him. Serie A was manipulated, and we were the victims. Juventus were deputed to win and if it wasn’t them, then it was Milan‘s turn. It was shameful because the biggest form of dishonesty is cheating people’s feelings.”

Moratti is the most winning patron in the history of the Nerazzurri. Inter won five Serie A titles, four Coppa Italia and Italian Supercups, one UEFA Cup, one Champions League and a club’s World Cup during his presidency.

He sold the club to Indonesian businessman Erick Thohir in 2013 before Suning’s takeover three years later.
