Jose Mourinho
A win for Roma tonight would see Jose Mourinho overtake Sir Alex Ferguson to become the most successful coach in European competitions.
The Portuguese coach returned to Italy last year to lead the Giallorossi and things have gone well in the Italian capital, with Mourinho guiding Roma to their first ever European title last season in the Europa Conference League. Roma are competing in the Europa League this season and are hungry for a win over Real Betis this evening, keen to put up a serious fight for a spot in the Round of 16.
As highlighted by Football Daily, Mourinho has picked up 106 wins in European competitions in his coaching career, the same amount as Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson. A win for Roma over Real Betis tonight would see him overtake the Scot to become the most successful coach in European history.
The Portuguese coach did not seem too concerned about the record when speaking at a press conference yesterday, noting: “It’s not an incentive or being proud, when it arrives I will always be proud of my career. When I finish my career I will have many things to remember and think about.”
