Romelu Lukaku
Reports from Italy have claimed that Inter Milan are not willing to include Denzel Dumfries in a swap deal to sign Romelu Lukaku.
According to CalcioMercato, the Serie A side do not want to sell the full-back at all, however are especially not keen on losing him in any kind of trade.
The Blues were linked with a move for the Dutchman last summer, as they prepared for life without Cesar Azpilicueta.
They will have also noted the injury problems which cropped up last season for Reece James, despite him being a clear first choice when fit.
However, the club captain signed a new deal to extend his decade-long spell with the side, and a replacement wasn’t needed to bring in competition in the right-back position.
Now though, they are struggling for a strong option after James’ injury ruled him out of the next few weeks, as well as almost certainly the World Cup.
Inter don’t want to sell Dumfries
This is likely why CalcioMercato are reporting the club’s revived interest in Dumfries, who has certainly impressed in the past.
He drew praise from Ally McCoist during last year’s European Championships, where he described him as ‘amazing to watch’.
The Blues are desperate for an option to deputise the 22-year-old on the right of defence. Any option they go for at the moment weakens the starting side beyond belief.
As for Lukaku, the Blues could do with getting the transfer out of their minds as soon as possible.
The Belgian promised so much not delivered so little in his season back in West London, and did his best to annoy as many people as possible who support the club too.
Despite only being out on loan at the minute, it seems like both the player and club are hoping he won’t return to Stamford Bridge.
